PINCONNING, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan city has been awarded a half-million dollars for upgrades to the wastewater treatment plant.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) awarded a $500,000 grant to Pinconning for the improvements.

The 20-year-old facility will receive a variety of new equipment including a roof over the digester to prevent freezing, a new ultraviolet disinfection system and a variety of pumps, drives and motors, according to City Manager Bill Jasura.

The upgrades should get the current 20 year-old facility through another 20 years of operations.

Engineers are getting the bid documents together now, once contractors are approved work should begin in March of 2017.

The project is expected to wrap-up in Nov. of 2017.
