WEST BRANCH, MI (WNEM) -

An autopsy is now being planned for a local man found dead after he was missing for several days.

According to Michigan State Police, the department's Marine Services Team located the body of 51-year old Harold Wayne Brown around noon on Sunday, Oct. 9 in the Rifle River near Skidway Lake. Brown was reported missing on Thursday, Oct. 6.

An autopsy will be performed to determine his cause of death.

Hunters in Ogemaw County found Brown's vehicle along a two-track near Skidway Lake at around 2 p.m. on Thursday.

The red Ford F-150 was running and empty. When hunters noticed the truck hadn't moved at 7 p.m. they called police.

According to state police, approximately 75 volunteers helped police search for Brown. Brown's dog was found by troopers on Friday and was returned to the family.

Michigan State Police believe Brown may have followed the dog, Ginger, into the woods.

A flashlight and a hat were found nearby.

Family members also report Brown suffered from depression and other health issues.

If you have any information you are asked to call the Michigan State Police in West Branch at (989) 345-0956, or Ogemaw County Central Dispatch at (989) 345-9911.
