SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

The Saginaw Art Museum invites you to join in on their interactive WNEM TV5 Museum After Hours event, A Night of Fire & Fun, on Thursday, October 13th from 5pm-7pm. This after hours experience complements their exhibition My View from Behind the Wheel: The Molten Materials of Jeff Blandford, on display in the Sargent Special Exhibition Wing October 7 through January 7, 2017.

The WNEM TV5 Museum After Hours event will feature exhibiting artist, Jeff Blandford, in an open and interactive demonstration of raku and horse-hair firing and an introduction to the pottery wheel. Raku and horse-hair firing is a technique that is done by pulling pots out of a fire when red hot and wrapping them in tail hair from horses, concluding in a white vase with black lines, a signature ceramics technique for Blandford, which is featured in the exhibition.

“This event is showcasing the tools that developed and created the entire show,” said artist Jeff Blandford. “It is creating a chance for people to gain an introduction to and explore the potential of the pottery wheel.”

This interactive WNEM TV5 Museum After Hours event will be made even more unique by Blandford, as he plans to take requests from community members for various forms and objects that they would like to see created.

“A Night of Fire & Fun” is a free event, taking place at the Saginaw Art Museum on Thursday, October 13th from 5pm-7pm. Fall themed refreshments provided.
