AUBURN, MI (WNEM) -

Alpacas are nosy creatures who make nice pets and produce a very soft wool.

"They're not a smelly animal. They're a very mellow animal. They're a laid back animal. So we started out with three," said Barb Schick, with Alpaca Adventures of Mid-Michigan.

Barb and Mark Schick started out with a handful of alpacas about eight years ago. Now the couple has 11 of the domesticated creatures. They said alpacas are a lot of fun to raise.

"The weather is very good for them here. Their fleece grows long and it's cool most of the year so it's a natural fit, basically," Mark Schick said.

The Schick's started an Alpaca bazaar a couple of years ago in Auburn. It's grown in popularity every year since then. You can buy alpaca products like gloves, socks and hats at the bazaar.

"We bring the alpacas and they're actually in the parking lot so people can take pictures, have hands on, visit with the alpacas and see what kind of animals they are," Barb Schick said.

The alpaca bazaar will be held at the Williams Township Hall in Auburn on Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
