SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Two cats were killed in a house fire Monday afternoon.

The fire broke out at a home on the 5100 block of Kencliff in Saginaw Township.

No one was home at the time of the fire, Fire Chief Jim Peterson said.

Upon arrival to the scene firefighters saw heavy smoke and flame coming from the rear end of the house. They were able to put the fire out.

"The homeowner will be displaced probably for a while," Peterson said, citing heavy smoke damage to the structure.

The cause of the fire is unknown and the incident remains under investigation.
