Several pets suspected dead in fire at 2 lakefront homes

FENTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Several pets may have died and one man is recovering from after a massive fire at two lakefront homes Wednesday.

Multiple departments were called to Fenton Township to help fight the fires in the 14000 block of Eastview Drive on Lake Ponemah.

Neighbors nearby said they heard popping at about 10:15 this morning, then saw the flames.

“I thought it was fireworks at first but other people have said it was electrical so I'm not really sure,” Kimberly Nelson said.

The fire started at one home and then spread to the neighboring house. Witnesses told TV5 a man was sleeping in the first home when it started.

He was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries on his feet, and smoke inhalation. The family is the second home was able to escape without injuries.

Michigan State Police will help to determine what caused the fire to start.

Crews were on-scene for six-and-a-half-hours putting out all the hot-spots.
