TUSCOLA COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

It isn't time for No Shave November yet, but some Mid-Michigan sheriff's deputies are going scruffy for a good cause.

The men are stepping back from the razor's edge to raise money for children.

The Tuscola County deputies have been allowed to participate in a program to raise money for Operation Good Cheer.

"They've got a program now where they raise money for Christmas presents for foster children. And they've got a program and part of it is a beard contest where each one of our deputies, we were allowed to participate last year and this year, $20 per deputy," said Sgt. Nate Licht, with the Tuscola County Sheriff's Office.

In all, 27 deputies are participating and they raised $540.

From young whiskers to gray beards the deputies are happy to get a chance to brighten the holidays for some less fortunate kids.
