ROSCOMMON COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A member of the Roscommon County Sheriff’s Department is sporting some new life-saving apparel.

Ghost, a K9 officer with the department, received a bullet and stab protective vest donated through a non-profit organization called Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

Ghost is a 2 ½ year old German shepherd from Slovakia who just began serving as the Roscommon Sheriff’s Office primary K9 with his handler Deputy Dakota Darsow. He began his duty in May and is certified in tracking, both for criminal apprehension and locating lost or missing persons.

He’s also certified in narcotics detection, article searches and violent criminal apprehension.

Ghost’s vest is embroidered with the sentiment, “In loving memory of Sydnee.”

The charity organization provides the potentially life-saving body armor and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement throughout the United States. It’s provided more than 2,000 vests in 50 states at a cost of over $1.7 million.

All vests are custom made by Armor Express in Central Lake, Michigan.
