AARP joins water pipe replacement in Flint

AARP Michigan is joining the Flint water crisis response team to help replace lead pipes.

Volunteers with the non-profit organization, as well as 1.4 million members in the state, will go door-to-door to get permission from homeowners and residents to have their lead service lines replaced. The volunteers will also provide important information on water-related issues.

The state has set aside about $27 million for replacing pipes at thousands of Flint homes and businesses. About 200 service lines have been replaced so far.

Pipe replacement will happen more quickly if residents are prepared to answer their doors for AARP volunteers, and to sign the required consent cards, officials said.

All volunteers will have identification when they come to your door.
