LAPEER COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A man is dead after apparently walking into the side of a vehicle, and getting hit by another.

It happened on Oct. 16 at 5:54 a.m. on Clark Road, north or Turrill Road in Lapeer County.

The sheriff’s department reports that David Houghtaling, 44, from Lapeer, was walking north along Clark Road.

At first witnesses say he was walking along the edge, but as a vehicle driven by Jason Morrell got closer, Morrell claims Houghtaling waived one of his hands.

Morrell then told investigators Houghtaling started waiving both hands and ran towards his vehicle, running into the driver’s side.

After hitting the vehicle, the victim ended up on the ground in the northbound lane.

As Morrell stopped to call 911 investigators report that a vehicle driven by a Farmington Hills man hit Houghtaling.

He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:29 a.m.

The case is still under investigation, but deputies note neither of the drivers were drinking.
