Report: Michigan police most overworked in nation

Posted: Updated:

A new study shows Michigan has a lot of crime, but not enough officers.

A new report from Safewise ranks Michigan police as the most overworked in the nation.

There are just over 23,000 law enforcement officers in the state and they’re kept busy by heavily populated cities.

In 2014, there were over 630,000 crimes in Michigan. That's an average of 28 total crimes per officer, according to the home security company.

While that doesn’t seem like a large number, officers are also required to testify in court, file paperwork and resolved other incidents.

Statewide, there are 350 civilians for every police officer, Safewise reported.
