LAPEER COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A man is dead after losing control of his vehicle and hitting two trees.

It happened on Oct. 24 at 9:12 p.m. on Angle Road between Callis and Mayfield Roads in Lapeer County’s Mayfield Township.

The sheriff’s department reports that Steven Medellin, 22, from Lapeer, was driving east and failed to make the turn.

He overcorrected, crossed the center line and went off the other side, hitting the trees, according to investigators.

When emergency responders arrived they said Medellin was unresponsive and had to be removed from the vehicle.

He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies report that preliminary investigation suggests both speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

It remains under investigation. If you have any information call Det. Sgt. Jason Parks at (810) 656-1015.
