GENESEE TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

The missing 4-year-old boy with autism has been found after a short search.

He was reported missing in the area of his home on the 400 block of Katzafogle Street in the mobile home park of Dutch Village. That's in Mt. Morris.

He was last seen wearing a blue hoodie and dinosaur pajama pants.

Police reported the boy missing shortly after 4 p.m. on Tuesday. He was found about 5:30 p.m. and put into an ambulance.

Police said he was cold, but healthy.

"Very concerning. Especially when I have three little ones myself and my son has autism too. So I can only imagine what he feels like without his parents," said Stephanie Miller, resident of Dutch Village.

Police said they first found a shoe on the trail in the woods. They brought in a dog and the dog trailed the scent to the child where they found him alone and afraid.

Genesee Township Police Chief John Mullaly said the child's mother said she lost track of the boy while they were at the playground. It was 10 or 15 minutes before she realized he had wandered off.

This is the second time police have responded to a call from the mother. The first time was last week.

"It behooves us that here we are a week later and we have a similar incident where he was, he had walked away from the house naked and we were on scene. And we had called CPS out and now here we are, here he wanders off again," Mullaly said.

He said CPS was called in again on Tuesday. His department will put together a report and turn over the evidence to them.

"And we're going to make sure this doesn't happen again if at all possible. I mean, we've got to do something to protect that child," Mullaly said.

The Genesee Township Police Department, Mt. Morris Police Department, the county parks staff and the Genesee County Sheriff's Department were part of the search.
