ISABELLA COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A man was sentenced to one year in prison for suffocating his girlfriend.

The charge stems from an incident that happened on Jan. 1 on the Isabella Indian Reservation.

Scot Jackson pleaded guilty on July 25 to assaulting his girlfriend. He was sentenced on Oct. 27.

The 41-year-old Rosebush resident assaulted his girlfriend, broke her phone and covered her mouth, making it difficult for her to breathe, U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade said.

Jackson was sentenced to one year and one day in prison.

The case was investigated by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police.
