DETROIT (AP) -

Fire officials in Detroit say the city is on track to have the second-lowest number of Angels' Night fires on record.

Detroit city officials said in a Monday morning news release that firefighters responded to 26 fires from 12:01 a.m. Sunday through 12 a.m. Monday. Officials attribute the low number to three-day anti-arson campaign that started Saturday. Intentionally set fires have been common in Michigan cities around Halloween. The numbers were as high as 810 fires in 1984.

More than 4,000 people volunteered last year to help patrol Detroit streets and neighborhoods to curtail fires in vacant houses and buildings.

Only 52 fires were reported last year in Detroit compared to 97 in 2014. So far this year Detroit firefighters have responded to 40 fires.
