BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

One Mid-Michigan resident was faced with the dilemma of removing the tree hanging over her house or losing her homeowner's insurance.

Sheila Morehead was unable to remove the tree herself so she reached out to the TV5 Rescue Squad in hopes someone could help.

Morehead is confined to a wheelchair and lives in a small house near the corner of Lafayette and Broadway in Bay City. In October she received a letter from her insurance company threatening to cancel her policy if the overhanging branches from her neighbor's chestnut tree weren't cut off.

Her neighbor is disabled as well and said he would like to help, but can't afford to pay for the work.

Mid-Michigan Contractors of Saginaw saw Morehead's story and wanted to help out.

A spokesperson for the company said the estimated cost is nearly $1,000, but the company will do it for just the labor cost of $400.

Jeri Fish saw Morehead's story and she wanted to help out as well.

"I think if you got it and somebody needs it, you share. Life's tough. You got to help each other," Fish said.

Fish wrote a check for $400, which covered the discounted amount Mid-Michigan Contractors agreed to do the job for.

"We brought out several pieces of equipment, the high ranger, the chipper and I brought a four man crew out here. So it was pretty expensive," said Larry Martinez, with Mid-Michigan Contractors.

He said he is happy he could make a difference.

"I feel great. You like to help people out that are in need and stuff like this," Martinez said.

As for Morehead, she is happy the problem has been resolved.

"Now nothing can hurt my house so I'm very happy and very thankful," she said.
