SAGINAW, Mich. On Wednesday, the Saginaw Spirit, in conjunction with the Windsor Spitfires and the Ontario Hockey League, are proud to announce the details of the “OHL Farewell to the Joe”. On Sunday, December 4th, the Saginaw Spirit will host the Windsor Spitfires in the very last OHL game to be played at the Joe Louis Arena. The puck drops at 4:00 p.m.

OHL Commissioner Dave Branch said, “With the rich junior hockey tradition of the Joe Louis Arena, the Ontario Hockey League is looking forward to the upcoming “OHL’s Farwell to the Joe” event.  This is a home game for the Saginaw Spirit, but we wish to show the league’s support and respect for the historical importance of the facility and the many OHL alumni and champions that have called the JLA their home.”

The Spirit and the Spitfires will highlight the longstanding history of junior hockey played at the Joe Louis Arena, which began with the Detroit Jr. Red Wings, who won the J. Ross Robertson Cup as Ontario Hockey League Champions during the 1994-95 season.

The Jr. Red Wings, which were led by former Windsor Spitfire and current Winnipeg Jets Head Coach Paul Maurice and OHA/OHL graduates Greg Stefan and Peter DeBoer, featured the likes of future NHL stars Todd Harvey, Bryan Berard, and Jamie Allison.

As part of the “Farewell to the Joe” experience, the Ontario Hockey League will host a Minor Midget game at 12:00 p.m. showcasing two teams that have several OHL draft eligible players participating.

At 4:00 p.m., the Saginaw Spirit will host the Windsor Spitfires in an OHL regular season game. 14 NHL drafted players and 12 2016 NHL Draft eligible players will take the hallowed Joe Louis Arena ice, battling for West Division supremacy.
