MICHIGAN, (WNEM) -

A new report claims the state's Pure Michigan ads are a waste of your tax dollars.

The Mackinac Center for Public Policy said for every $1 million spent on the campaign, the state only brings in $20,000.

“Michigan taxpayers may love seeing their town or favorite destination highlighted but they deserve to know they’re paying a hefty price tag for those ads with very little to show for it,” said LaFaive, director of the Morey Fiscal Policy Initiative at the Center.

According to WWJ in Detroit, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation continues to stick by their claims that the ad campaign is providing bountiful returns on the state’s investment.

Spokesperson Michelle Grinnell said more than 113 million visitors spent nearly $23 billion in 2015.
