November is getting hairy here at TV5.

Andrew Keller is putting down the razor for the month in an effort to draw attention to men’s health.

“Movember” is designed to highlight some of the biggest health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer and poor mental health.

To help keep the focus, Andrew will be growing his facial hair throughout the month. Every time you see it, think about what it means and click here to help donate to Andrew’s efforts.

To help him out, TV5 producer Shawn is also participating. You can keep track of their “growth” by checking back on this page throughout the month, and don't forget to help with the cause!

Others across Mid-Michigan are participating as well.

Larry Daly's beard draws a lot of attention. He dreamed it would fill in like Paul Bunyan's, but he said his dream is far from reality.

"I would say sketchy at best, but it, it's a good cause," Daly said.

He is growing it out to change the face of men's health and to get more men to talk about health issues.

"It is important that we have the periodic checks that we need," Daly said.

This month many men are participating in No Shave November or Movember. They are two different foundations finding a fun way to bring awareness to men's health and to help raise money for the fight against cancer.

"People that have crazy beards who normally don't have it. And that's what actually brings the awareness because then people start talking," said Sandy Johnson, with Covenant Cancer Care Center.

She said one in seven men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. The sooner it can be detected the better it can be treated. She said men need to get tested.

"It's always a tough conversation, but the best recommendation I have is just persistence and showing the literature, doing some background checks and giving the facts to your husband or significant other would be beneficial," Johnson said.

Daly said he won't win any awards for the best beard, but it will be a victory in itself if he can help save someone's life.

"Donate a little cash, donate a few facial hairs and life is food," Daly said.
