FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan funeral home is under investigation after a state inspector reportedly found decomposing bodies in a garage.

The Detroit Free Press reported four complaints were filed against Swanson Funeral Home of Flint in September for gross negligence, incompetence, violation of a rule of conduct and an inability to serve the public.

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette’s office is now investigating.

The investigation was triggered after a funeral director from Springport, Mich. visited the home last year to pick up a body and found the decomposing bodies, which had been apparently stored in a garage over the summer, according to the Free Press.

"You know the commercials and that's usually where people go and they're always friendly," said Jerri Burford, Flint resident. "I never would've thought that it would be so unorganized or like people's body fluids. You wouldn't think a funeral home would be careless."

Swanson is known for its low cost cremations and affordable services.

The funeral home owner O'Neil Swanson was not in the office when TV5 stopped by.

"You would think that he would care more about the bodies, especially being black bodies. Especially here in Flint. You would think they would care more and it's sad to hear that they don't. I am shocked," Burford said.
