One Michigan school district is in mourning after the loss of one of their own.

Megan Thompson,31, from Snover died Friday, Nov. 4 after the vehicle she was driving hit a tree.

According to a Sanilac County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson, Thompson was driving east on Peck Road shortly after 7 a.m. with her 6-year-old son in the vehicle when she crossed the center line, went into the ditch and hit a tree.

Thompson was pronounced dead at the hospital. Her son wasn’t hurt.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor, investigators said.

According to the Croswell-Lexington Community Schools website, Thompson taught math and coached girls soccer for the district.

The district canceled class for students on Monday, November 7th, to allow staff and students to attend Thompson's funeral.

Thompson's family will receive visitors from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6 at Marsh Funeral Chapel and 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Monday at Open Door Missionary Church. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 7 at the church.

Memorial Contributions may be made to The Family Discretionary Fund.
