Law enforcement amp up patrols for Election Day

SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Some voters wonder if there will be any surprises when they head to the polls on Tuesday.

"I would hope everyone is cordial and respectful of everyone's opinions," said David Brown, voter.

Some local law enforcement agencies are stepping up patrols in case things get out of hand.

"We just don't want to have any problems. We don't want anybody coming along causing problems at the polls," Saginaw County Sheriff Bill Federspiel said.

He said they will have two extra units on the road on Election Day. Nationwide there have been concerns of voter intimidation and terrorism.

"Just in case. We don't anticipate there will be any problems, but you just never know and we want to be prepared," Federspiel said.

He said those units will specifically address any issues at the polls to make sure everybody has the chance to have their voice be heard.

"Given the climate that we're in right now it's probably a good idea," Brown said.
