A Mid-Michigan woman is confident she’s got what it takes to win the World Food Championships, the largest competition in food sports.

The event is taking place Nov. 9, and Carol Socier from Bay City enters as an “amateur cook”, despite baking for more than 60 years.

“My first project was a lemon pie and it actually turned out quite well, we ate it.”

Carol’s qualifying competition dish is a caramel apple brandy cake, a desert that made her the 2016 “Michigan Apple Recipe Contest” winner at Zehnder’s Snowfest in Frankenmuth.

She’s representing the Michigan Apple Committee at this year’s championship in Alabama.

She told TV5 the famous recipe is actually one of her mother’s, with a few added touches.

Carol also said she’s more nervous for the plane ride down and gathering her ingredients than the competition itself, because she believes in the family recipe.

“I’m actually just looking forward to the competition and just being able to do it, and being able to get it to the judges on time.”

Carol’s biggest fan will also be at the competition with her.

“My husband is going with me; he’s missing deer hunting for this.”
