BURTON, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan school district is warning parents of a scam making its way through the community.

Superintendent Chris Arrington with Bentley Community Schools in Burton sent an email warning residents of the scam. He said a company based out of Maryland has been trying to solicit businesses in the area to pay $149 to advertise in the school’s “Spring Sports Poster.”

Arrington said Bentley Community Schools does not have a spring sports poster and no one from the school has authorized the company to use their name or collect money from businesses in the community.

“We love your support, and at different times, I am sure we will reach out to you in terms of helping our school financially with different endeavors,” Arrington said. “Please know this "Poster Initiative" is a complete scam and has nothing to do with our school.”

Officials found the company’s behavior suspicious and reached out to the Better Business Bureau. They found the company is a scam.
