Missing money leads to arrest

PORT AUSTIN, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan man has been arrested in connection with missing money from a local store.

The owner of the Port Austin Market, located on Lake Street in Huron County’s Port Austin, called the sheriff’s department after noticing that money from sealed envelopes was coming up missing.

When deputies began investigating they found that the business was being broken into.

After checking surveillance tape, they searched two homes, one in the 5000 block of N. Van Dyke near Kinde and the3 other on Main Street in Kinde.

More than $700 in marked bills was found, along with property believed to have been purchased with the stolen cash.

A 36-year-old Port Austin man was taken into custody for parole violations and officials are seeking felony charges for breaking and entering.
