SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

For Latinos across Mid-Michigan, waking up to President-elect Donald Trump meant waking up to a new America.

"It's like nobody wants us here. It feels like we worked so hard to build an American life and an American dream here in America. It just felt like nobody cared about us," said Albert Jimenez, U.S. citizen.

He and his mother were born in the U.S. However, he said they're both on edge because of the statements Trump made in the past targeting Latinos.

"There's negatives and positives within our community, within any race there's problems. But it hurts that we were targeted right away and that doesn't feel American to me," Jimenez said.

Families at the Mexican American Council said the younger generation has been very disillusioned by this election and they feel a lot of uncertainty for the future.

"We can't conquer our problems until we unite because we all have the same problems. Just because we're in different skins doesn't mean anything. We're struggling and it's a very hard struggle for our kids," said Marie Villegas.

Villegas works to support local members of the Latino community. She said she'll have to work even harder to create a better future for her granddaughter.
