Michigan joined the rest of the country Wednesday morning to watch what the transition into a Donald Trump presidency will mean for the state's economy.

"Well, it will be interesting. Our business has been good, but with the new president in there I'm expecting to see a positive change," said Ken Redmond, business owner.

The Saginaw business owner said he hopes the new president-elect uses his business background to boost business in shops like his.

"He'd been a success and failure at the same time and I'm hoping that maybe he can see us through this to get the economy back the way it used to be," Redmond said.

Both business owners and working class Michiganders said Trump's knowledge of managing his own billion dollar empire is his biggest asset to increase economic growth across the country.

"Even though he did have loses, I still trust him over anyone else," said Sheldon Edwards, Midland resident.

Local business owners said it's too early to know if the president-elect's plans will hold up for their businesses. They said they'll just have to sit back and wait to see if the proof is in the profit.

"If everything happens the way they say it's going to be, then I'm expected to be on the plus side with the new president," Redmond said.

As good as the promises sound, Redmond said he can only do his part and hopes Trump's plans will do the rest.

"That's all I can do is hope. I'm like everybody else. You want it to happen and you hope that it does. That's all I can say," Redmond said.
