MT. PLEASANT, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan man is behind bars, accused of strangling and holding a knife to his girlfriend’s neck.

It happened on Nov. 6 at Forum Apartments in Mt. Pleasant.

Police were called after a 32-year-old Mt. Pleasant woman said Zackary Jennings, 24, held a knife to her throat and choked her until she felt like she couldn’t breathe.

Jennings told police he was jealous of a situation that happened at a bar and that sparked an argument. He said he was behind the woman when he put his arm around her throat until she stopped fighting with him.

He told police he never used a knife.

Jennings is currently behind bars on charges of assault by strangulation, assault with a dangerous weapon and domestic violence.
