FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

A church van was fired upon, but it’s still not clear if it was targeted.

It happened about 5 p.m. on Nov. 9 as the van was in the area of Flushing and Ballenger Road in Flint.

Police said there were six minors and two adults inside the van when they heard a gunshot and the back window shattered. An 8-year-old was hit in the face by a piece of glass.

The van kept driving and took the child to the hospital where he was treated and released for a superficial cut to the face.

There are no suspects or motives at this time.

"Fortunately, we are thankful that God's hand of protection was all over us," Pastor Jim Britt said.

The church said the incident happened after people in two cars started shooting at each other with the van caught in the crossfire.

"Something like this is frustrating. It's upsetting to have kids to go through a drive by shooting, but still we will not be deterred and our ministry will go on strong," Pastor Duane Thomas said.

Thomas said he is heartbroken over what the children are going through.

"The youngest girl who was injured, she says she never wants to go to church again. But I was able to talk to her mother and convince her that this is just a weapon formed, but it will not prosper," Thomas said.

**Editor's note: TV5 has withdrawn the name of the church at their request.**
