A Mid-Michigan woman said a bump in the road wrecked her car causing thousands of dollars worth of damage.

She thought she was covered, but now she could be left footing the bill.

Andria Weakley said she was driving her two children to their grandparents' house to carve pumpkins about two weeks ago. One that drive she hit something with her car.

"My car went in and as we came out it made an awful metal crunching sound," Weakley said.

She said she was going less than 20 miles per hour when she hit a bump in the road. That bump, as the sign warns, is actually a chunk of road missing from Jay Road in Vassar.

"It's the entire width of the road by at least the length of my car and it has a lip so the whole front end was demolished," Weakley said.

That bump did $4,000 worth of damage. Weakley said she called the city manager and he told her the city would take care of the repairs to her car and the road.

However, she received a different story from the city's insurance company. They said she was on her own for the repairs.

"The adjuster told me, 'we're not accepting responsibility and it was labeled,'" Weakley said.

She said there was no warning that there was such a large bump in the road. She said the proof can be found in the barricades shutting down the road since her mishap.

"The fact the road is now blocked off and has been since this incident means they've already accepted fault," Weakley said.

She said she doesn't have $4,000 laying around for the repairs and hopes the city does the right thing.

"It's very frustrating for me because I work very, very hard for what I have and I take care of things I earn. And this was not my fault," she said.
