SANILAC COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A 75-year-old man was killed over the weekend when he was thrown from his vehicle while trying to avoid a crash.

Deputies were called about 7:56 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 to the intersection of East Peck Road and Cribbins Road in Buel Township.

Investigators found a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 driven by 75-year-old Paul Grafmiller from Chesterfield was heading westbound on East Peck Road when he tried to avoid rear-ending another vehicle that was stopped and waiting to turn onto Cribbins Road.

Witnesses said Grafmiller lost control of the truck and slid across the intersection into the south side ditch. The truck came to rest on its passenger side.

Grafmiller was thrown from the vehicle, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said Grafmiller was not wearing a seat belt. They do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
