ESSEXVILLE, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan student is recovering after he was hit by a vehicle while riding his bike to school.

Hampton Schools Supt. Michael Cortez told TV5 a middle school student was riding his bike through the intersection of Borton and Pine near Garber High School when a vehicle "clipped" his back tire, knocking him off his bike.

An off-duty Essexville police officer was dropping his kids off at school and responded immediately.

The driver of the vehicle had stopped properly at the four-way intersection, investigators said.

The boy was taken to McLaren Bay Region to be checked out as a precaution, Cortez said.

The boy's parents were with him at the hospital and he had no serious injuries.
