GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Authorities are investigating after they say a teen was hit and killed by a train Monday while walking on the railroad tracks in Genesee County.

Victoria Lane,15, was walking westbound on the railroad tracks between the Main Street and Lemen Street crossings just before 3 p.m. when she was hit by a CN train, police said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teen was a freshman at Fenton High School. A crisis team will be visiting the school to help students and staff cope with the loss.

Police said Lane had no ID on her at the time and that she was hit from behind.

An autopsy was completed on Tuesday.

Fenton Area Public Schools posted the following statement on their Facebook page:

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help pay for funeral costs.
