Police: Scammers sending fake IRS letters

MUNDY TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Police say scammers are getting even more tricky.

After residents became more knowledgeable about fake IRS phone calls, the Mundy Township Police Department says scammers are now sending out letters very similar to what the IRS sends out. The letters say the person owes money due to the Affordable Care Act.

If you get letters from the IRS that you have no reason to expect, you can go to the IRS website and call or email them.

Do not call the number on the letter.

Police said to remember the old adage, “If it sounds too good to be true…”
