SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Michigan winters can be tough, but one local woman is trying to stay warm while her roof is caving in.

She lives on a single income and provides for her family. She reached out to the TV5 Rescue Squad for help.

Denice Lane is fearful of the upcoming winter season because her roof is deteriorating. A tarp currently covers the holes, but she said that doesn't stop the rain and cold from getting in.

"The water and stuff leaking from the outside and the tarp is only going to hold on for so long. And this snow, I'm scared when the snow comes. It's going to bow and only get worse," Lane said.

The damage has reached the inside of her home where she, her three children and one grandchild all live. It's to the point where she said safety has become an issue for her granddaughter.

"I heard a big crash and she came running in to me and I said, 'what's going on?' And she said, 'Grandma, some more of the ceiling fell,'" Lane said.

Lane said she received an estimate of more than $10,000 to have her roof completely replaced and she doesn't have the money for that.

Lane even had to cut the electricity off to certain parts of her home because the leaking has gotten so bad. She is working as a custodian and is the sole income provider for the household, which is why she said she needs help.

"I have one income and it's just not enough and my roof is bad," Lane said.
