GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A group known as the Turkey Warriors set out to help Mid-Michigan families celebrate Thanksgiving with all of the fixings.

They collected hundreds of meals and they hope to help even more people with the help of others.

For many people Thanksgiving is a time to slow down and count their blessings, but don't get in the way of Bob Ranville who is still adding those blessings up.

"They call me Turkey Bob," he said.

It's a badge of honor he proudly wears on his hat and his shirt. Some of his friends only know him as his nickname

Hundreds of families will have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all of the fixings thanks to Ranville. It began as a lesson to his children about kindness and compassion.

"Helping my kids realize what the holidays are about. Helping them to realize what Thanksgiving is all about," Ranville said.

He started doing it last year by using Facebook to find a family in need. He received dozens of requests and couldn't choose just one. So Ranville turned to friends and the community and together they became the Turkey Warriors. They donated 134 turkey dinners to families across Mid-Michigan.

Ranville said the satisfaction became addictive so this year the number of families he's delivered to has soared. They have delivered 350 turkey dinners so far.

"It's going to help out a lot, especially with my mother having health issues," said Robin Loomis, recipient.

Loomis said the times have been tough, but the Turkey Warriors made it a little easier.

"There's good people out there still. Even though the world's going crazy, still good people," Loomis said.
