SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

One man reached out to the TV5 Rescue Squad for his ill father.

His home isn't ready for winter and he can't seem to keep the heat they're paying for inside.

David Gilman is asking for help on behalf of his ill father Leo. Leo's home is is in desperate need of new windows.

Leo is in no shape to replace them and with the winter temperatures quickly approaching, time is running out.

"He's got the storms missing, wind comes right through, snow comes right up ya know. He's 87-years-old and he's bedridden. He needs a little help replacing about five windows," Gilman said.

Gilman is one of Leo's caretakers. He said they plastic seal the windows, hang curtains or even hang blankets to keep the heat in, but it's not enough.

"He just can't get up and move ya know. He's complained all last night he was cold and I got the heat on 75-80, ya know. And like I said, I got plastic up, but the wind comes right through. You can see the plastic moving," Gilman said.

With temperatures already dropping this winter, Gilman said he's more worries than ever about his father's state of health. He said they want to figure out how to keep the heat from literally going out the window.

New windows can cost anywhere from $300 to $500 per window, putting the potential price tag at more than $1,000.

As a retired truck driver, Leo can't afford it.

"He just can't afford it ya know. He gets $1,100 a month. He just can't do it. His bills are so behind from his windows as it is, ya know. He just can't catch up on his consumers," Gilman said.
