SANILAC COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Five people were injured in a vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon.

It happened shortly before 1 p.m. on S. Van Dyke Road near Montgomery Road in Sanilac County's Marlette Township.

A 76-year-old Imlay City woman was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala southbound and attempted to make a U-turn in the middle of the road, according to Sanilac County Sheriff's Deputy Luke Zeller.

A 37-year-old man from Marlette was driving a 1989 Chevrolet cargo van behind the car. The driver of the van told deputies the car turned into the road right in front of him and he was unable to avoid the collision, the sheriff's office said.

The driver and passenger of the Impala were treated and released at the scene.

The driver and two passengers of the van were taken to Marlette Hospital for treatment for their injuries.

Investigators do not believe alcohol or speed were a factor in the crash.

The driver of the Impala is being issued a citation. The driver of the van was arrested on an outstanding warrant. His name is being withheld pending charges.
