FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Flint residents are stocking up on bottled water for Thanksgiving.

Their concern is not only having enough water for their guests, but also helping neighbors who can't help themselves.

"I put about 40-50 containers in my truck because everybody doesn't have a way. It doesn't hurt to help," said James Rhods Jr., Flint resident.

Dealing with the water crisis is a part of daily life so Rhods is encouraging everyone to focus on having a good holiday and doing something for someone else, like delivering water.

"We're going to deal with it the best we know how," he said.

The holiday season brings out the best in people and residents in Flint are just focused on being thankful.

"I was born and raised here in Michigan, Flint. I left and came back. There are a lot of things going on with my home, but I'm going to give them the opportunity to fix it. It may be a little difficult to cook, but at least they came up with a solution for families to still be able to live in this town and have water of some kind," said Lavern Leatherman, Flint resident.

Leatherman said she's making the best of a bad situation. She's thankful for access to bottled water at water distribution sites across the city and is looking forward to cooking a soul food dinner for her family.

"A turkey, chicken and dressing, mac and cheese, greens, sweet potato pies," Leatherman said.

She has a vehicle and can get around to buy what she needs to make the holiday special, but this Thanksgiving holiday she is also worried about her neighbors.

"What about the people who don't have vehicles," Leatherman said.
