DETROIT (AP) -

Police say a man fired a gun at an off-duty Detroit police officer outside a convenience store on the city's west side.

Detroit police say the officer had just left the store on Sunday night and was in his personal vehicle when the man approached him and fired. Officer Dan Donakowski tells The Detroit News that "words were exchanged" before the shooting. The officer wasn't injured.

Police say the officer's vehicle was hit by shots. Donakowski says the man who fired the shots was apparently upset that the officer had spoken with the suspect's sister at the store.

The man fled on foot. Police say a person of interest was questioned on Sunday in connection with the shooting, which is under investigation.
