FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

One Mid-Michigan woman had gone several days without heat before she reached out to the TV5 Rescue Squad for help.

After multiple surgeries, disability, financial setbacks and living without heat, Mary Murphy said she had enough.

"Now we are here. A week and a half with no heat and I don't know what to do," Murphy said.

She said her boiler stopped working out of the blue. She said she has home protection insurance through Consumers Energy, but it might not be enough.

"I have what is called the gold plan. So that if they are unable to repair it, they give you so much towards a new one. Unfortunately, I have a water boiler which can cost up to $2,000 to $5,000 and I will only get $750," Murphy said.

TV5 contacted Consumers Energy and they confirmed Murphy's insurance only covers about $750. However, they said they were trying to figure out other ways they can help her out.

Murphy said she had her furnace looked at over six times in the past week and a half.

"Impossible. I can't get a loan. I've maxed out my charge cards because of my disability, my short term is not paying and we are on my son's income and that's social security," Murphy said.

Consumers contacted a repairman who went to Murphy's home on Monday. The repairman assessed the problem and was able to fix the furnace.

Murphy said her furnace is working.

"I was so amazed because TV5 came out here. Then they were looking into it. Instead of me calling that I need this, it's the supervisor. You guys made it happen," Murphy said.

Murphy said she is relieved this winter will be a warm one and she can finally turn off her space heaters.

"I can't thank you enough. I am still grinning from ear to ear and I can't stop because it is so amazing. It's wonderful to have heat," Murphy said.
