SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

One family, who has a slew of medical issues and no car, is hoping things turn around for them during this season of giving.

"Christmas shopping, I can't even go out Christmas shopping," David Ozark said.

He and his family are desperate. He lives with his fiance Kim Kahn and her son in Saginaw. He said it's impossible to be independent because they don't have a vehicle.

"As far as getting around - bicycle, walking, cab if we have to. The bus stop is 10 to 12 blocks away and that's a lot to carry groceries," Ozark said.

The problem isn't only the lack of transportation, but the family is dealing with several medical issues as well.

"I had a stroke a year ago and it's really hard for me to talk," Kahn said.

Kahn gets her rides to and from the doctor, courtesy of her medical provider. However, she and her family said they're in need of their own car.

Ozark said the family tried to take out a loan to get a used vehicle, but they were immediately denied because of their income.

The family didn't meet the minimum requirement of $2,500 a month, not including social security. The only person working is Kahn's son Ryan. Although his income helps, it's not enough.

"See, I've had neck surgery. I've had back surgery and right now they want me to do hip surgery. And I know if I have hip surgery I won't be able to walk," Ozark said.

Since walking is his main form of transportation, Ozark said at this point the surgery is a no. He said he would even take a loan from someone, anything to get a working vehicle.

"Oh Lord, Lord, the Lord would answer my prayer," Ozark said.
