FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

The Genesee County Habitat for Humanity organization hosted a "Giving Tuesday" informational event at its ReStore and offices in Flint Tuesday evening.

Habitat builds 10 to 12 new homes in the county every year, operating with 13 employees and more than 500 volunteers. Among the volunteers are the new homeowners themselves.

"It's a partnership we start with the application process and into our educational program. And it continues well into their mortgage years," said Program Director Juan Zuniga.

"It's zero interest, so that is amazing," said Whitney LaLonde, who will move into a new home before Christmas, if all goes according to plan. "My daughter is super excited. She gets her own room and it's the biggest room in the house!"

LaLonde's 5-year-old daughter, Olivia, suffers from asthma and has been bothered by mold and second hand smoke around their apartment.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit that relies on donations.
