GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

The future of a major Mid-Michigan freeway could include fewer lanes.

The State Department of Transportation hosted an open house Tuesday night at Genesee Township Hall to hear what people think about proposals for re-constructing I- 475 in Genesee County.

Those proposals include:

Reconstruction between Carpenter and Clio Roads

Removal of two pedestrian bridges

Reducing that part of the freeway to two lanes from three

Removing loop ramps at Saginaw Road and creating a diamond interchange.

Work would begin in 2018 and continue through 2019.
