DETROIT (AP) -

An 8-mile stretch of southbound lanes on Interstate 75 will be shut down for nearly two years in the Detroit area.

The state Transportation Department says work will start on Feb. 4. The I-75 bridge over the Rouge River is getting a major face-lift, between Detroit and many downriver communities. The Detroit News says it's the largest bridge in Michigan.

Officials say northbound travel on I-75 will remain open.

The state says a public meeting will be held in January to draw more attention to the project.
