DETROIT (AP) -

A teenager who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and gun charges in the death of a Detroit woman who was shot in her car while waiting to pick up her son from basketball practice has been sentenced to 25 to 60 years in prison.

The Detroit News reports that 18-year-old Ralph Marshall was sentenced Tuesday. Last month he pleaded guilty in the January slaying of 43-year-old Erica Garner.

At the time he was charged, the Wayne County prosecutor's office says Garner was sitting in her car waiting for her 11-year-old son when she was shot in the head when Marshall approached and tried to steal the vehicle.

Marshall's alleged accomplice was acquitted by a Wayne County jury in May.
