A state agency has suspended a Mid-Michigan doctor on claims that he over prescribed commonly abused drugs.

The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, or LARA, suspended Dr. Kriangsak Thepveera. He is a Saginaw area physician.

LARA said Thepveera over prescribed hydrocodone and codeine cough syrup. The department said he authorized more than 2,500 prescriptions, more than double any other doctor in the state.

The department said Thepveera put patients at risk of overdose.
