School district warns of stranger danger incident

Posted: Updated:

The Saginaw School District sent a letter to parents on Friday advising them of a stranger danger incident.

The letter said the district received reports of an adult male who attempted to inappropriately communicate with students who were walking to school. It happened in the areas of Mackinaw and Thurmond, and N. Carolina and Davenport.

Law enforcement is investigating the issue to identify the man.

"He came home and right away handed me a letter," said Ebony, parent. She wanted to keep her last name private.

She thought her 5-year-old son Damion was in trouble when he brought the note home from school. After she read the letter she realized it was something a lot worse.

"It was scary and I immediately told the children, cause I always go over with them, what to do if a stranger comes up to them," Ebony said. "It's sick, but I know they're out there. And it's up to me to let my children know what to do in situations like these, like all parents."

Ebony said she quizzed all of her children about what to do if they are approached by a stranger. She said she is glad the school sent home a letter, but she wished there was more information.

She said her son walks to and from school every day. Even though it's just a couple blocks away she is more frightened for her children's safety than ever before.

"But knowing he's still out there, it's cringing," Ebony said.
