A Mid-Michigan couple is piling on the layers to stay warm because their furnace broke.

Ashley Rowell and her husband don't have any heat in their Bay County home.

"It needs to be wired. The thermostat needs to be wired and the top needs to be fixed, something about a jacket needs to be attached to the top. I really don't know much about it," she said.

Rowell works full time at a local fast food restaurant. She said they just can't afford the cost of getting the furnace up and running.

The couple was using firewood to stay warm, but then another problem came up.

"I was using wood in my fireplace and the doors blew out. The glass shattered on one. We kind of fixed it with foil, then the other one blew out," Rowell said.

With nowhere else to turn, she reached out to the Rescue Squad for help.
