You probably find out about school closings from TV5, but one local school district has a new way of telling students and their parents.

The folks at Vassar Public Schools posted the video of an 'Ice, Ice Baby' parody song on their Facebook page. It was even picked up by the Weather Channel.

Teacher Theron Nesbitt said the video was made possible due to the green screen he painted for his digital multi-media class.

Superintendent Dorothy Blackwell appears as a backup dancer in the video.

"I think it is fabulous. I think it's just a part of all of the positive energy at Vassar Community Schools,' Blackwell said.

She said the district is expanding multi-media classes at the school and it was time to get creative.

Nesbitt said he was shocked at how fast and simple it was to get noticed.

"Most of the schools don't have the technology to do it or know how to do it. So we expanded our little bit of knowledge we had, used social media and that's the way to get news out there. And the students started sharing it and their families and from there it just exploded," Nesbitt said.

This may not be the last you see the teachers and faculty in a music video. They said they are counting on five more snow days, which means five more videos.

"We have another snow day video ready to go. We have a few reminders for half days. We have one for a fog day, but it's going to be hard to top this one. So we are going to have to tap into our creative juices," said Gina Ziel, teacher.

Blackwell attributes the popularity of the video to its dedicated teachers and students, and of course some good dance moves.

"There is so much positive energy going on here at Vassar. To be honest, it doesn't surprise me because the energy you can just feel it when you walk in," Blackwell said.
